Baking for Dummies #2: Follow the Recipe!

 Follow the Recipe!

Welcome back everyone to the second post of Baking for Dummies! Today covers a very simple topic, one I hope everyone has followed without me even mentioning it. The recipe. For starters, if you do not have recipes that you follow and you just fly by the seat of your pants, that is probably why you are reading this post! But it’s okay, no judgement here! This is why I created this blog – to help you struggling bakers out there. The VERY first thing that you should obtain when you want to bake something is a recipe. Whether it be a family recipe, one you find off the internet, or a personal friend’s recipe, you should always have something to follow when you want to bake something. Since baking is such a precise thing, you need to make sure you follow the directions exactly (hence why using a recipe is so helpful).

When you look at a recipe, make sure to note some specific pieces of information such as:

  • The temperature of the oven
  • What kind of ingredients
  • How much of each ingredient
  • The time it takes to bake the recipe
  • If you need to do anything beforehand (such as set butter out to soften)

These pieces of information are very important when it comes to following the recipe, so do not shy away from them! This is what creates failed baked goods; when someone tries to do something else than what the recipe states it creates disaster. Really as long as you carefully look at the recipe and follow it exactly, it should make baking easier and create the type of baked good you want.

There isn’t much else to explain about it, so I will see you all again next week! Happy baking!
