Baking for Dummies #7: More Pans!

 More Pans!

Hellooooo everyone! Welcome to post 7, where we will be diving into more baking pans! Unlike the last post where we went over the basic cupcake and cake pan, we will be going over some fewer basic types of pans. Even though they aren’t as basic, they are still very important to know about as a baker and can still be useful for making certain types of baked goods. So lets dive into some tips and tricks for some new types of pans!

This pan may seem basic, but it’s actually one of the most versatile types of pans – the sheet pan! Even though it appears to just be a simple metal sheet with a little ridge on the sides (which yes, it is but just listen), it is used for many different recipes for many different reasons. Due to the simplicity of the pan, it can be used for many purposes. Baking, broiling, and cooling are just some of the things that the sheet pan can do. It can bake sheet cakes, bake cookies, cool cookies or chocolate, broil caramel or butterscotch, and much more. You should definitely keep a few of these in your cabinets!

Now, one pan that isn’t as common but I highly recommend having is a springform cake pan. I am honestly not sure where the name comes from, but this pan is usually deeper in depth, and unlatches on the side (which is super helpful)! This pan is used to bake cheesecake, tarts, and different types of pies. You use the pan to bake whatever you have in there, cool in the pan, then unlatch the sides to show off your baked good! It is mostly used for cheesecake and tarts because you want to show off the crust, but it takes a longer amount of time to cool and set that a regular pan would not give. Also, the fact that it unlatches really helps because it would be a disaster to try and get a cheesecake or tart out of a regular pan! That is why I highly recommend you have one of these.

The pans we discussed in the last post and this one should get you started on your baking journey, but you are more than welcome to explore the other types of pans out there! Hope to hear from you guys again next week. Happy baking!
